Clearasil Acne Products Review

clearisil acne productsClearasil is all about the science of looking awesome, but when your skin is breaking out, it doesn’t look so awesome. Clearasil products are designed to combat acne and leave skin looking clear, but not all their products are good options for acne sufferers. Some products will work great in your skin care regimen, but several of them should be avoided because they could possibly make acne worse.

Cleansers

People who suffer from acne need to use gentle cleansers on their skin. The whole reason for this is so that you do not irritate the acne and make it worse. Most of Clearasil’s cleansers are not very good for acne-prone skin because they are either too drying or contain fragrance or menthol, which can cause irritation. The only cleansers I would even consider in this line are the Stay Clear Oil-Free Gel Wash and the Ultra Daily Face Wash, but both these cleansers contain salicylic acid, which is a good ingredient, but the salicylic acid does not stay on the skin long enough to be effective. Those two cleansers are still effective at washing away dirt, oil, sweat, and makeup.

Benzoyl Peroxide

After cleansing, those suffering with acne need to use a benzoyl peroxide treatment on their skin because the benzoyl peroxide kills the acne causing bacteria. It is better to use a percentage of 2.5 instead of 5% or 10% because the 2.5% has been proven to be just as effective without the excessive drying of the others. All of Clearasil’s benzoyl peroxide products are good choices, however, they do all contain 10% benzoyl peroxide, so users should be careful not to apply too much since it can be drying.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is a BHA which means it exfoliates the skin when the ph of the product is at the right amount and the product contains atleast 2% salicylic acid. BHAs are good for people with acne because the salicylic acid can penetrate into the pore and clean the pore lining. The only BHA products worth using from the Clearasil line are the Ultra Overnight Serum and the Ultra Overnight Face Lotion because the other BHA products contain alcohol, menthol, or hydrogen peroxide, which are not good ingredients to use on the skin because they can make acne worse.

Good products in the Clearasil line do exist, but you must be careful to make sure the products you are using do not contain harsh ingredients like alcohol, menthol, fragrance, or plant extracts.
