In the battle against acne, there are a plethora of products promising to cleanse your pores and make your blemishes disappear. So which ones actually deliver results? Today we’ll take a close look at the Biore Unclogging Scrub and determine whether it has a place in your skin regimen or is best left at the store. Biore states on their website that the Unclogging Scrub is “a great pre-treatment before applying your Pore Strip”, as well as a product that “penetrates deep down where breakouts start to help prevent future ones”. So which is it? Does it require the assistance of a Pore Strip, or is it strong enough to remove all of that unwanted oil from your pores on it’s own? This is an important question to consider before purchasing.
Ingredients
Among the scrub’s thirty ingredients, a few raise warning flags. Number one is synthetic wax, which is often extremely counterproductive. The goal is to remove the oily buildup in you pores, not add a synthetic wax on top if it. The salicylic acid in this scrub will have a hard time dissolving both your skin’s oil and the wax. Concern number two is the addition of fragrance. More and more people are discovering that they’re highly allergic to fragrances in their skincare products. Acenic skin is often sensitive already, and does not need a fragrance to cause further irritation. In addition to this, the current trend in skin care is the use of natural ingredients. This product bucks that trend and doesn’t conform to consumer desires. One pro is that the scrubbing beads are smooth and spherical, meaning that they won’t cut the skin and leave it open to infection.
Consumer Reactions
Many who purchased and used the Biore Unclogging Scrub found that it stripped their skin of all it’s moisture. They also reported that the scrub either did nothing to combat the redness, or, in some cases, increased their skin’s inflammation. Some found the fragrance to be pleasant, others found it highly irritating. Many stated that the scrub did wonders for their skin at first, but within a few weeks, they were left with painful acne that wouldn’t respond to the active ingredients in the scrub.
To Buy or Not to Buy?
With overwhelmingly negative reviews, this is a product that should stay on the shelf at the drugstore.
